YouTube Transcript & Caption Copy
Terms of Use
Last updated:
These terms govern your use of the Chrome extension YouTube Transcript & Caption Copy (the “Extension”). By installing or using the Extension, you agree to these terms.
About the Extension
The Extension is provided free of charge. It works on YouTube video pages, displays and copies the caption data YouTube makes available, and prepares summary prompts for ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude.
All processing happens on your device. The developer operates no server. See the Privacy Policy for details on what data is handled.
Relationship to third-party services
The Extension is independent software and is not affiliated with YouTube or Google LLC. It is not endorsed, sponsored, or approved by those companies. YouTube and Google are trademarks of Google LLC.
The Extension is likewise not affiliated with ChatGPT (OpenAI, L.L.C.), Gemini (Google LLC), or Claude (Anthropic PBC). All names and trademarks belong to their respective owners.
The Extension depends on the behavior of these third-party services. Changes to those services, their interruption, or their discontinuation may render the Extension partly or wholly unusable without notice.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for your own judgment on each of the following.
- Compliance with YouTube’s terms of service and any other applicable terms. Whether your use of the Extension complies with a given service’s terms depends on how you use it.
- How you handle the text you obtain. Captions and transcripts may be protected by copyright. Do not republish, adapt, or transmit them in ways that fall outside the requirements for quotation or otherwise breach copyright law.
- What you send to an AI service. The Extension prepares a summary prompt, but you perform the send. Review the prompt before sending it. What happens afterward is governed by that service’s own terms and privacy policy.
Prohibited use
You may not use the Extension to do any of the following.
- Violate any law or public order
- Infringe the copyright, trademark, or other rights of any third party
- Place an excessive load on any third-party service, including bulk or automated data retrieval
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise analyze the Extension in order to misuse the result
No warranty
The Extension is provided as is. The developer makes no warranty that it is fit for any particular purpose, that it will operate without interruption, that it is free of errors or defects, or that it will produce the results you expect.
Whether a transcript can be retrieved depends on the data YouTube provides. Videos without captions, or whose captions cannot be retrieved, will not work. The Extension does not summarize videos itself; the quality of any summary depends on the AI service you choose and on the prompt you send.
Limitation of liability
Except where the developer has acted with intent or gross negligence, the developer’s liability to you arising from the Extension is limited to direct and ordinary damages actually incurred.
In that case, the developer is not liable for lost profits, loss of data, business interruption, third-party claims, or any other indirect, special, incidental, or consequential damages.
This limitation does not apply where the developer has acted with intent or gross negligence.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised as needed. Revised terms take effect when posted on this page. The last-updated date is revised for material changes.
Changes to the Extension
The developer may modify or discontinue the Extension at any time without prior notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan.
